The National Employment Training Scheme

What is NETS?

The National Employment Training Scheme (NETS) is a collaboration between the Institute for Advanced e-Studies (IAeS), the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and other stakeholders to combat unemployment. In NETS, successful candidates who pass a written examination, are trained for FREE in various disciplines and equipped with the exact skills required by employers. NETS will do the following:

  1. Train you for free in various specialized courses;
  2. Pay you a stipend during training to handle transport and other logistics;
  3. Place you as interns in companies at the end of the training;
  4. Facilitate employment interviews for you for certain companies

What are the benefits of the NETS programme?

In NETS, candidates are trained at no cost whatsoever in specialized courses and then placed as interns. At the end of the internship, full employment is offered to the interns based on their performance and at the discretion of the participating company. Employment interviews are also facilitated under NETS based on the request from the participating organization.

Who are the organizers of NETS?

NETS is organized by the Institute for Advanced e-Studies and the National Directorate of Employment. Other stakeholders include employers of labour whose firms recruit interns at the end of the programme.

Who are the NETS partners?

NETS partners cut across various Government organizations, private firms and other Non-Governmental Organizations. NETS intends to widen the participation in the second edition to include agencies such as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and other relevant government agencies.
The private organizations are partners in recruiting the trainees of the programme as interns after the completion of the training.

What are the major achievements and milestones of the NETS programme?

In the recently concluded edition, which was the very first edition, NETS successfully trained all Nigerians who passed the NETS Entrance Examination. Out of the number trained, over 80% have been placed as interns in different organizations across Nigeria. Most of our trainees have been converted from internship to permanent staff in their respective organizations.

The graduation ceremony was a huge success and held the Nicon Luxury Hotel on the 23rd of August 2010.
